Winner of the £25,000 Threadneedle Prize quits her day job
Artist Sheila Wallis, 37, who won this year’s £25,000 Threadneedle Prize, for her self-portrait, has given up her job working for the NHS in order to concentrate on painting.

Sheila Wallis wins the £25,000 Threadneedle Prize
Artist Sheila Wallis, 36, has won the £25,000 Threadneedle Prize for her unusual, delicate and sensitive self-portrait, naked, curled-up on rumpled sheets. The Prize was awarded this evening by Lauren Laverne (host of BBC 2’s The Culture Show), following a public vote held online and at the Mall Galleries.

The £25,000 Threadneedle Prize shortlist announced
The seven art works shortlisted for this year’s £25,000 Threadneedle Prize have been selected. This year, the six shortlisted runners-up will each receive £1,000.
The Threadneedle Prize is the largest art prize in the UK awarded by members of the public, who can vote online at www.threadneedleprize.com for one work to win the £25,000. Lauren Laverne will announce the winner on Monday 14 September 2009 at the Mall Galleries.

Artists selected by Artists
The art works in this year’s £25,000 Threadneedle Prize will be selected by a panel of five artists including Michael Leonard, Cathy Lomax, Jock McFadyen, last year's winner Nina Murdoch and Daphne Todd. They will be joined by Guest Selector Desmond Shawe-Taylor, Surveyor of The Queen’s Pictures.
