Laura Smith, born 1980 in Surrey. Lives and works in London. Studied BA Fine Art at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL and currently studying MFA Fine Art at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL.

Selected group exhibitions include: Jerwood Drawing Prize, Jerwood Space, London, 2011; The Threadneedle Prize 2009, Mall Galleries, London, 2009; Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize, Painters’ Hall, London, 2007. Smith was shortlisted for the Bulldog Portrait Bursary in 2010 and 2009 and was awarded The Prince’s Drawing School Drawing Prize and The Richard Ford Travel Award in 2004.

Through her paintings, Smith examines the idea that a single inanimate object can express an emotion.
